Our Law Firm Gives Back To The MOTORCYCLE COMMUNITY:
1. Bystander Assistance Course: I put a member of my firm through EMT school so she could teach this course to Michigan Bikers. My law office puts on and sponsors this course.
Our Bystander Assistance Course teaches bikers what to do if someone goes down in a crash. It includes rescue breathing, the proper way to lift a motorcycle off the injured, how to properly remove a helmet (don't unless a criteria is met), how to properly move an injured biker from a dangerous roadway, lifesaving emergency medical care and more. See below for more info.

This DVD he wrote, produced and is featured in sets straight the myths and misinformation about motorcycle law. It explains how to protect yourself before you ride. It advises bikers about the special kinds of insurance they should have and Laws bikers need to be aware of.

Bystander Assistance Course- Debbie Parinello EMT, Course Instructor, a member of my firm, and one of your fellow Motorcyclist. Debbie brought information regarding this class to me a few years ago, I felt so strongly that every motorcyclist should have the opportunity for this class. I immediately sent Debbie to school to become an EMT one of the requirements to become an instructor for Bystander Assistance. Since then over 300 Motorcyclist have been trained in Michigan by Debbie, from various HOG Chapters, Detroit Superbikes, Ducati Club, various Abate regions, V- Star Clubs, and many more including independent riders. My firm has fully sponsored all of these classes, as well as supplied hundreds of free basic first aid kits to class participants. What is Bystander Assistance? This class teaches you what to do in the event of a crash. As any fellow Motorcyclist knows, the most fun we have riding, is to go to the places that no one else travels, with that in mind it also puts us at greater risk of getting help to us quickly- resulting in longer wait times for EMS. You may also not even have the opportunity to make that 911 call if you see the dreaded NO SERVICE on your cell phone, now we may also have to send someone to find a landline. Bystander Assistance offers both a Basic and Advanced course which consist of 6 hours each. We teach a simple formula that is easy to remember what the most important tasks are- how to easily recognize and deal with them appropriately. This includes Rescue Breathing, how to remove a helmet if someone is not breathing according to the guidelines of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, moving the injured, treating the injured with life sustaining care. Recently, the American Heart Association released new guidelines suggesting that everyone just pump the chest only- this does not take into consideration whether or not trauma is involved. Since trauma is associated with Motorcycle crashes, internal or serious external bleeding is a valid concern. Pumping the chest will only cause the injured to bleed out more quickly. Hence the reason we teach Rescue Breathing, and using the Jaw Thrust to open the airway. This is the best method to deal with the possibility of Spinal injuries. As always the goal is to reduce the risk of further injury to the injured, as well as keeping yourself safe while helping them out. One of the other important tasks is reporting the most important details to the dispatcher to insure the proper level of care for the injured rider.
