We Give Back to the Motorcycle Community

We try to prevent motorcycle accidents.

Having seen the devastating effects of motorcycle accidents, we launched a campaign to promote motorcycle safety. In addition to our bystander assistance courses, we are distributing thousands of bumper stickers reminding drivers to Watch for Motorcycles! Our campaign includes billboards next to busy metro roadways. If these reminders prevent just one motorcycle accident, it will be worth the effort.

We offer a Bystander Assistance Course.

I put a member of my firm through EMT school so she could teach this course to bikers. My law office puts on and sponsors this course, which is also called Accident Scene Management.

Our Bystander Assistance Course teaches bikers what to do if someone goes down in a crash. It includes:

  • rescue breathing
  • the proper way to lift a motorcycle off the injured biker
  • how to properly remove a helmet (don't, unless certain criteria are met)
  • how to properly move an injured biker from a dangerous roadway
  • lifesaving emergency medical care, and more.

See below for more info.

We give a free Motorcycle DVD: Secrets Every Biker Must Know.

The Motorcycle Lawyer sm wrote, produced and is featured in this DVD that sets straight many myths about motorcycle law. Our DVD explains how to protect yourself before you ride. It advises bikers about the special kinds of insurance they should have and the laws every biker needs to be aware of.

We created the Biker Discount Card.

Attorney Jason Waechter, The Motorcycle Lawyer sm, has put together the Biker Discount Card. We have gone out of our way to negotiate with business owners, asking for discounts and specials for those carrying the biker discount card. You reap the benefits of our efforts just by keeping the card in your wallet. On the other side is our free Legal Advice Card: with it, you can call our office and ask any of our lawyers any legal question about any subject. Click here for full list of vendors.

We sponsor Many Charities and Rides.

One of the many charities that Jason Waechter supports is The Miracle League of Michigan.

The Motorcycle Lawyer sm is a Featured Speaker.
Attorney Jason Waechter often speaks for free to motorcycle groups and clubs. The topics usually include dispelling the myths of motorcycle law, ways to legally protect yourself in the event of a crash, and special insurance recommendations to protect the biker.

About our Bystander Assistance Course

Debbie Parinello is our course instructor. She is a member of my firm, an EMT, and an avid motorcyclist. Debbie brought information regarding this class to me a few years ago, and I felt so strongly that every motorcyclist should have the opportunity to take this class that I sent Debbie to school to become an EMT, which is one of the requirements to become an instructor.

Since then, over 3,000 motorcyclists have been trained by Debbie. Bikers from various HOG chapters, Detroit Superbikes, Ducati Club, various ABATE regions, V- Star Clubs, and many more, including independent riders, have taken the Bystander Assistance Course. My firm has fully sponsored all of these classes, as well as supplied hundreds of free basic first aid kits to class participants.

What is Bystander Assistance?
The Bystander Assistance Course teaches you what to do in the event of a crash. As any motorcyclist knows, the most fun we have riding is taking the road less traveled. Unfortunately, that also puts us at greater risk of crashing our bikes in remote areas, where we might experience longer wait times for EMTs. You could end up in a dangerous situation and see the no service signal blinking on your cell phone; if that's the case, you have no choice but to send someone in search of a landline.

Bystander Assistance offers a Basic and Advanced course, both of which are six hours long, to teach riders how to prioritize and deal with emergencies on the road. We teach a simple formula that makes it easy to remember your emergency training when you need it, including rescue breathing, how to properly remove a helmet if necessary to allow the rider to breathe, how to move the injured rider, and how to provide life-sustaining care. Please note: removing a helmet can be dangerous and should only be done when certain criteria are met. Please contact us for more information or to find out when the next Bystander Assistance Course is taking place.

The course will also teach you how to report the most important details of the crash and the victim's injuries to the 911 dispatcher; a task that can be vital in getting the injured rider proper care and response. The goal of these courses is to reduce the risk of further injury to the victim and keep everyone on the scene safe while they provide help.
