IOWA MOTORCYCLE LAW*

Ø      Iowa is at at-fault state. This means that the law of negligence governs car accidents. The person who is found to be “at fault” for the accident can be held accountable for your injuries and damages in your Iowa motorcycle accident.

 

Ø      Iowa Helmet Law: State law in Iowa does not require Iowa motorcycle riders and operators to wear a helmet.

 

Ø      Iowa Eye Protection law: State law in Iowa does not require Iowa motorcycle riders and operators to wear eye protection. 

 

Ø      Iowa Statute of Limitations: To bring a suit for injuries resulting from your Iowa motorcycle accident, you must do so within 2 years from the date of your Iowa motorcycle accident.

Actions may be brought within the times herein limited, respectively, after their causes accrue, and not afterwards, except when otherwise specially declared:

2.      Injuries to person or reputation--relative rights--statute penalty.  Those founded on injuries to the person or reputation, including injuries to relative rights, whether based on contract or tort, or for a statute penalty, within two years.

Ø      Iowa Minimum Insurance Requirements: The minimum insurance requirements for your Iowa motorcycle is compulsory liability insurance.

The following are the minimum liability insurance limits for Iowa motorcycles:

·        Bodily Injury Liability (1 person): $25,000

·        Bodily Injury Liability (all injuries in one accident): $50,000

·        Property Damage Liability: $15,000

Ø      Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UIM): If you are injured in an Iowa motorcycle accident, and the at-fault driver does not have insurance, your injuries may be covered by your UIM coverage.
